Weaning a Toddler from the Bottle

We have a 14 Month Old Son. He refuses to give up the bottle for a sippy cup. When we give him no choice, he refuses to eat or drink until we give in. He has not been very healthy, suffering from multiple ear infections and medicine to cure it. Over the past 2 months he has been so spoiled to the bottle because of his sickness. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Cindy,
What all have you tried in the sippy cup? Do you think if maybe you put something "new tasting" in the sippy cup and see if he will drink it; and then next time, maybe you can slip in the usual stuff and he might go for it again (?) I dont know, this is definitely a hard habit to break. Good luck - keep tryin'. He is such a cute baby, I would give in too!

Yes, we tried with juice, water, etc. He is stubborn! It is a very hard habit, maybe he will eventually wear down. He never had any security items like a pacifier or blanket, this might be his security item.

Cindy - we had this problem with Brooklynne - what worked for us was we put Strawberry Milk in her sippy cup - and ONLY water in her bottle. She was broke in less than 2 days because she did not want the water! With Bryce he was just attatched to the bottle itself - he would drink out of the sippy cup - but still wanted to hold on to the bottle.

We gave him a sippy cup with Strawberry flavored milk. He drank it like crazy, then used the bottle to go to bed. We will try chocolate milk next. Hopefully this will not lead to him not liking regular milk and wanting it flavored :).
